Monument Community Partnership

The Organization

Founded in 1998, the Monument Community Partnership (MCP) is a broad-based collaborative of residents, human and health service agencies, the school district, city government, and local business owners. MCP uses collaborative methods, and engages residents as agents of change, to make practical, enduring improvements to the Monument community -- a diverse, under-resourced neighborhood in the heart of Concord, California.

A key premise of the MCP is this: That taking effective action to reduce poverty and improve the well-being of a community starts with building personal relationships -- relationships that allow people from different backgrounds and disciplines to work effectively together toward common goals. Functional social networks and experience-based trust are preconditions for any community to work well. MCP works to involve residents of all ages, ethnicities and immigration status as equal partners with local public and private organizations in productive, action-based collaboration.

MCP’s Mission: The Monument Community Partnership builds a community of people who care about and want to influence what happens in the Monument neighborhood of Concord, California. We bridge, connect and strengthen the goodwill and creativity of people from all walks of life to profoundly improve this neighborhood.  Our 10-Year Goal is to measurably increase the social and economic stability and mobility of current Monument Community residents and local businesses in ways that promote the health, well-being and prosperity of both the community and the City of Concord.

MCP's Core Values: All of our programs and projects are based on the core values of mutual respect, mutual support, and mutual accountability.

MCP's Programs: MCP carries out its mission through three core programs: the Monument Community First 5 Center serving children from the area ages 1-5; the Resident Network, which utilizes neighborhood action teams to identify, develop and advocate for solutions for local issues; and the Service Network, which links local service providers, businesses, local government, and the school district in efforts to improve communication, access and services to Monument area residents.
