Summary:
Presents the general charge and the specific duties of the Steering Committee. Membership and reporting responsibilities are discussed.

Background:
The Steering Committee is an Advisory Committee to the Executive Director and makes recommendations in conjunction with and through the Executive Director to the MCP Board of Directors.

Charge to the Committee:
The Steering Committee is charged with the following responsibilities:
- Ensure all activities of MCP are consistent with MCP’s resident driven guidelines and support MCP’s mission, vision and focus areas
- Make recommendations to Executive Director and Board
- Coordination / information sharing across focus areas
- Represent key constituencies
- Identify obstacles, need for support of others, develop action plan
- Resource / advisor on emerging issues
- Ensure that emerging issues are addressed structurally
- Coordinate definition of performance indicators and evaluate work of the focus areas
- Review and advise on Fund / Resource Development Plan. Board to approve overall plan
- Understand overall financial position of MCP (but Board is responsible)
- Review, understand and make recommendations on organizational structure and procedures
- Advise Executive Director on development of MCP official positions
- Review and advise on Communication Plan (not yet developed)

This charge shall be reviewed by the Committee periodically to assure continued effectiveness of the role of the Committee.

Membership:
- Representation of each key program and focus area
- Board Representatives
- Executive Director
- Community members

Reporting Requirements:
A report for each program and focus area including emerging issues, obstacles, needed support and activities that may impact other areas will be provided at each meeting.

Attendance:
Beginning in October 2007, after 3 absences in 12 months, the committee will evaluate whether action is appropriate.

We use collaborative practice and engage residents as agents of change to make practical, enduring improvements to the community.

Resident driven guidelines
- Making decisions with equal input from residents, neighborhood stakeholders and agency representatives.
- Valuing the knowledge and expertise of agencies invested in the community, and the residents who live there.
- Having mutual respect among all partners and using resources that each member brings to the Partnership.
- Making decisions, which facilitate growth and skill building for residents in the community.
- Keeping the community informed of decisions made and rationale for policies adopted.
