Announcements

-         First 5 has added 8 new diverse families this week

-         Free Immigration Clinic: March 25th 2006, 12-4 pm

-         Ruth will be applying for a position on the School Board

-         Independent Living Resources: helps people with disabilities

-         Health Department: will be including services in the Monument (ask Wendell what has been put forward; Board agenda item)

-         Navel Weapon Station: this week marked the 1st phase of Redevelopment (Go on to the cities website for residential feedback, how can MCP get involved in the meeting process)

-         STAND: Academy Awards Benefit Party- March 5, 2006

-         Harmesh Kumar would like to work with MCP for a multi-culture event

-         La Clinica: discussed the Community Host position at their last Meeting

-         Steve Peavler and Betsy Covarubias have joined the First 5 Advisory Committee

 

 

 

 

Sustainability Committee’s Role

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

History of this committee:

Started as a way of getting the key stakeholders at the same place at the same time for planning purpose. Doing some of the more detailed work before it gets sent to the Board.

Needed to tackle internal and external issues in regards to communication.

Needed NAT members, TF chairs, and Board members. Historically, did some management, some governance, and essentially worked the role of the Executive Director

 

Historical Purpose of this group:

-         Coordination/ Information Sharing: NAT’s, TF’ Chairs, Board Representative, and key stake holders. Also, a place where broader groups could enter in to MCP (ex. Police, faith community)

-         Funding/ Sustainability: Long-range planning

-         Communication: Internal and External

-         Out reach more broadly to the community & PR, image and presence in the community

-         Including residents/ resident driven partnership

-         Develop processes, structures, and advocates for resident partnership: how things are done

-         Represent key constituencies to this group (what are the seats?)

-         Meaningful information-sharing with context (newsletter like city)

-         Evaluates and recommends programs and projects to Board (policy,

 

Questions that have come up:

-         Open or closed group?

-         Who was there in the beginning?

-         What is the committee’s relationship to the Board (usually in charge of financial, legal, policy, and Executive Director)? And what is the relationship to management? Hybrid with the Sustainability Committee: input, advising body

-         Who gets to make the final decision? Who is responsible? Who is accountable?

-

Reviewed and modified MCP Priority Programs to make sure there is at least 1 resident accountable for each project. (see separate document)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next Steps

 

 

 

-                     Neighborhood Safety: coordination session; Kathy Renfrow, Mary Lou Laubscher, Ken Nichols, Mary Anne Morgan, Hilda Jimenez, Health TF, selected Police Department rep.
